You don’t know the meaning of tithes – Pastor Damina criticizes Pastor Adeboye’s teachings

Pastor Abel Damina, founder and president of Abel Damina Ministries International, has rekindled the ongoing theological conflict with Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
Damina criticized Adeboye’s recent tithing statements, claiming he doesn’t understand the fundamental meaning of the word ‘tithe’.
Adeboye’s viral sermon sparked controversy after he apologized for a controversial statement claiming that non-payment of tithes would prevent Christians from reaching heaven.

Pastor Abel Damina, the forthright Founder and President of Abel Damina Ministries International (ADMI), has once again reignited the theological debate with Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

In this latest exchange, Damina did not hold back, criticizing Adeboye’s recent remarks regarding tithing and boldly claiming that the esteemed pastor lacks a fundamental understanding of the term ‘tithe.’

The controversy escalated when Adeboye, during a widely circulated sermon, expressed regret for a previous provocative statement in which he asserted that Christians who neglect to pay their tithes would not attain salvation.

This assertion drew significant backlash, with Damina and other notable pastors disputing the idea that tithing is linked to salvation. Just as it appeared that tensions were easing, Adeboye made another contentious assertion.

He contended that restricting church members to a 10% tithe is misguided, proposing instead that dedicated Christians should contribute as much as 20% or even 30%. Adeboye further claimed that the 10% guideline is intended solely for “beginners.”

Damina, recognized for his passionate rebuttals and steadfast stance on doctrinal matters, was not inclined to overlook Adeboye’s assertions. In a fervent new sermon, he launched a direct and incisive critique of Adeboye’s interpretation of tithing, providing a detailed analysis of what he perceives as significant misconceptions in Adeboye’s understanding.

Abel Damina maintained that, by biblical definition, tithing constitutes the giving of one-tenth (10%) of one’s income to God. He emphasized that this principle is clearly articulated in Scripture, asserting that any contribution exceeding 10% should not be classified as tithing but rather as a voluntary act of generosity, which, while praiseworthy, should not be conflated with the tithe itself.

Moreover, Damina challenged Adeboye’s proposal that Christians should contribute more than 10%, labeling it a misinterpretation of biblical texts and an inappropriate extension of the original concept.
