Why JAMB Suspended Law Admission At Kwara Varsity
Kwara State University (KWASU) has confirmed that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) imposed a one-year suspension on its law programme following a decision by the Council for Legal Education (CLE) to penalize the institution for procedural non-compliance.
In a statement issued by the Acting Director of University Relations, Dr. Saeedat Aliyu, the institution acknowledged that the suspension stems from its initiation of the law programme in 2018 with only the approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC), without securing the necessary clearance from the CLE.
Adelekereporter reporter had earlier announced the suspension of law admissions for the 2025/2026 academic session at KWASU, along with other institutions, including the Nigerian Police Academy in Kano and Redeemer’s University in Osun State.
The CLE’s decision was based on non-compliance with established regulatory procedures.
Despite the suspension, KWASU stated that the sanction does not affect students currently enrolled in its Faculty of Law.
The university assured stakeholders that it now holds full accreditation from both the NUC and CLE for its undergraduate law programmes in Common Law and Common and Islamic Law.
“KWASU respects all regulatory bodies and will adhere to the CLE’s directive by not offering admissions into its law programmes for the upcoming session. Prospective students are encouraged to explore other accredited programmes at the university,” the statement read.
