Why I stay away from deeply spiritual roles — BamBam
Nollywood actress and former Big Brother Naija star, Bamike Adenibuyan, popularly known as BamBam, has revealed that she deliberately avoids taking on deeply spiritual or diabolical roles, especially when she does not feel mentally or spiritually prepared.
Speaking with Saturday Beats, she explained that her sensitivity as a performer guides the scripts she accepts.
“I am a very sensitive actor. I try to avoid deeply spiritual films, especially when I’m not sure or spiritually ready for them,” she said.
Beyond her reservations, BamBam noted that acting requires intense preparation long before stepping onto a set.
She emphasised the importance of understanding the emotional background and motivations of any character she portrays.
“When you get a script, you step into the role of that character. I got to understand Chioma’s personality and added a part of me to make her real. Acting is about understanding where your character is coming from so you can react as they would,” the actress said.
Addressing the challenges faced by former Big Brother Naija housemates transitioning into Nollywood, BamBam admitted that many filmmakers remain sceptical about casting reality TV stars due to doubts about their acting abilities.
“I have heard stories that they don’t like casting ex–Big Brother Naija housemates because they don’t trust their delivery. But thank God for the YouTube platform; it has given me an opportunity to showcase my talent beyond being an ex-reality TV participant,” she said.
Despite this perception, BamBam said she remains committed to proving her depth and versatility as an actor, adding that digital platforms have created room for her to display her skills and connect with audiences outside the confines of reality TV fame.
