Two PDP house of assembly members defect to APC
Two Peoples Democratic Party lawmakers in the Edo State House of Assembly, on Friday, defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
The lawmakers are Eugene Inegbeboh, member representing Igueben constituency and Andrew Uzamere, who represents Ovia II constituency.
The defection added to the PDP’s loss in the ninth assembly, significantly reducing the party’s legislative strength from the initial 15 to four. APC now has 20 members
The State Chairman of APC, Jarrett Tenebe who recieved the legislators at the party’s secretariat in Benin, described the defection as part of a growing political consciousness across Edo State, adding that it aligned with the party’s accountability, vision, and inclusive development.
The APC chairman noted that there is no old or new membership in APC, adding, “We are one family. The same honour and expectations accorded to long-standing members are equally extended to you.”
He noted, “Your coming is a reinforcement of what we stand for. We are welcoming two proven leaders whose experience will further enrich our party’s vision and grassroots reach.
“Let us all take today as a reminder that the strength of the APC lies not just in our numbers, but in our unity, our discipline and our shared belief in a better Edo.
“As a party, we urged all Edo citizens to continue to give our governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, the full support and enabling environment he needs to implement his people-centred programs,” Tenebe stated.
Earlier, the defected lawmakers thanked the APC chairman for the warm reception, and pledged to add value to the party.
