*LATE PROF. ABDULLAHI MUHAMMAD SHINKAFI
( MNIM; MIICA; FFAN; FFPAN) as they’re set to Commemorate One Year Anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR Administration on Thursday 30th of May, 2024.
Tinubu National Think Tank TNT, An NGO propagating the ideals, programes, projects and progress of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR Administration has concluded plans to give a Posthumous Award while planning to immortalize the late Prof. Abdullahi Muhammed Shinkafi who died on active service for this Administration and the President.
Born on 1st February, 1967 in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Nigeria. Attended Town Primary School Shinkafi from 1972 to 1978, Government Secondary School Kaura Namoda from 1978 to 1981, Government Science Secondary School Birnin Kebbi from 1981 to 1983, University of Sokoto from 1983 to 1988, Educational Resource Centre, Minna, from 1989 to 1990, University of Ibadan from 1991 to 1992 and Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto from 1995 to 1999. Prof. Abdullahi Muhammad Shinkafi is a graduate of General Agriculture, a holder of Masters and Ph. D Degrees in Forest Resources Management. He was also a holder of Entrepreneurship Development Certificate and Diploma in Arabic Language.
As a Muslim from humble background, Shinkafi, started Qur’anic Education at the age of 5 years in 1972, learned Jurisprudence and other Islamic Sciences and memorized the whole Holy Qur’an in 1992.
Started working carrier as Corps Member with Directorate for Food and Rural Infrastructure (DFRRI), Katsina from 1988 to 1989 later joined Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources Katsina as Agric. Officer from 1989 to 1990, Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources Sokoto as Produce Officer from 1990 to 1991, Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto as Asst. Lecturer, Lecturer II, Lecturer I, Senior Lecturer from 1990 to 2000 and became Professor of Forestry in 2009.
In addition, Prof. Shinkafi served as Honourable Commissioner of Environment (1999–2000), Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Education (2000–2003), Managing Director, Zamfara State Transport Authority (2003–2011), Honourable Commissioner Religious Affairs (2011–2015), Special Adviser to the Governor (2015) and appointed Secretary to the State Government (SSG) between 2015-2019, all in Zamfara State.
He was a member of many International, National and Local Professional Associations that include World Forestry Congress, All African Soil Science Society, Forestry Association of Nigeria to mention just a few.
Similarly, the Professor served in over 100 International, National, State and University based Committees. Published 3 books and more than 100 articles in Forestry, Natural Sciences, General Knowledge and Islam and also delivered more than 100 lectures in conferences and workshops in the same areas.
Served as an Aristotle and Presenter of many Radio and Television Programmes including ‘‘Know your Environment’’, ‘‘Pastoralists’ Half Hour’’, ‘‘Islam, the Way of Life’’ ‘‘The Message of Islam’’ e.t.c. in Sokoto and Zamfara States.
Served as Patron, Adviser and Counsellor to many NGOs and CBOs in Nigeria.
Travelled to many countries of the world in the United States, Europe, Asia, and Africa.
Left behind 2 wives;
Prof. Bilkisu A. Shinkafi, Professor of Fisheries Biology and a former Deputy Vice Chancellor, Federal University, Gusau. Currently with the Department of Zoology, University of Abuja.
Prof. Sa’adatu A. Shinkafi, a Professor of Microbiology and Head of Microbiology, Federal University, Gusau. Currently with Department of Microbiology, Baze University, Abuja.
Blessed with 10 children (6 males and 4 females), encompassing 6 graduates in B. Sc. Political Science and Conflict Resolution, B. Sc. Pharmacy, B. Sc. Software Engineering, LLB Law, A Lieutenant (B. Sc. Economics) and B. Sc. Accounting. Two undergraduates in B. Sc. Computer Science and LLB. Law and 2 Secondary School Students.
His last two assignments were serving as the Secretary of the Directorate for Sustainable Development of Nigeria. Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Council at National Level, as well as the Secretary General of APC Zamfara State Gubernatorial Campaign Council during the last election in 2023. He would have been named as one of the Ministerial Nominees of the Present Administration as his name was rumored as a Potential Minister.
He departed this word just a month after the election on the 24th of June, 2023. (Sudden death).
