Tinubu makes New Appointment
President Tinubu Reappoints Buba Marwa as NDLEA Chairman for Another 5-Year Term
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reappointment of Brigadier-General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd) as Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA extending his tenure for an additional five years.
Marwa, first appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in January 2021, will now lead the agency until 2031.
A retired military officer and former military governor of Lagos and Borno States, Marwa has had a distinguished career in the Nigerian Army, serving as Brigade Major of the 23 Armoured Brigade, Aide-de-Camp to then Chief of Army Staff Lt-Gen. Theophilus Danjuma, and as an adviser at Nigeria’s diplomatic missions in Washington D.C. and the United Nations.
He holds postgraduate degrees from the University of Pittsburgh and Harvard University.
Under Marwa’s leadership, the NDLEA has recorded major breakthroughs in drug enforcement, including the arrest of over 73,000 drug traffickers and the seizure of more than 15 million kilogrammes of illicit substances. His tenure has also seen intensified national campaigns against drug abuse.
President Tinubu praised Marwa’s performance, describing his reappointment as a “vote of confidence” and urging him to continue his fight against drug cartels targeting Nigerian youths.
