As we eagerly await the President’s much-anticipated address tomorrow, likely accompanied by a cabinet reshuffle, the focus must shift from politics to governance. The nation’s interest should be the guiding principle behind these decisions, ensuring that every change serves to benefit the people directly.

The first and most critical factor to consider is

competence

It is time for the President to bring together a diverse group of qualified professionals, regardless of their political affiliations. This administration’s focus should be on delivering tangible reforms that will have a positive impact on the average citizen.

The APC consortium of professionals

a platform of experts from both Nigeria and the diaspora—can serve as a vital resource for identifying individuals with proven track records in the public and private sectors. These professionals, who have made their marks in various fields, can help turn around sectors that are currently lagging.

However, the President should not limit his search to only members of the ruling party. There are qualified, capable individuals from opposition parties who possess the expertise and skills needed to drive transformation. In this critical first tenure, the priority should be on delivering concrete dividends of democracy that will touch the lives of the ordinary man on the street, not on maintaining political loyalty.

In addition to competence, Character and integrity
must be paramount.

Those chosen to lead must have impeccable records and a history of serving the public with distinction. They must be individuals whose experiences and achievements speak for themselves, bringing credibility and a strong sense of duty to governance.

As we conclude this analysis, it would be remiss not to mention
Dr. Betta Edu who exemplifies the type of leader the President should consider reinstating in the cabinet. As the former National Women Leader of the APC, Dr. Edu’s contributions during the 2023 presidential campaign were monumental. Her unparalleled ability to galvanize women’s support across the nation played a pivotal role in the party’s success. Beyond politics, Dr. Edu is a seasoned medical professional with the capacity to lead effectively, as evidenced by her work as a Medical Director and her impactful, albeit short, tenure at the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.

If Dr. Edu’s name is not already on the list of those being considered for the cabinet, there is still time for the President to make this correction. Her expertise, dedication, and ability to deliver results make her an asset to any government seeking to make real progress.

In conclusion, this moment calls for leaders who will bring their wealth of experience, competence, and integrity to the table. The President has a unique opportunity to assemble a team that will drive his Renewed hope agenda and deliver real benefits to the Nigerian people.
