A Motion On Akunu-Ayere-Kabba. Docx
Sponsor By Hon. Ifeoluwa Ehindero .

*URGENT NEED TO REJIG THE SECURITY ARCHITECTURE AND FIX THE BAD PORTIONS OF THE AKUNU/AYERE/KABBA ROAD TO STEM THE TIDE OF INCESSANT KIDNAPPINGS AND KILLINGS ALONG THE AXIS*

Sponsor : Honourable Ifeoluwa Ehindero (Akoko North East/North West Federal Constituency)

The House : Notes that Akunu is one of the border towns of Ondo State whose people are predominantly farmers and shares border with Kogi State; Further Notes that despite annual appropriations of funds to fix the 74.9 km Trunk A Idoani-Kabba road, especially the Akunu/Ayere/Kabba section (Aba-Jinadu junction);

The axis has been perenially bad with gullies, potholes and several washed-off portions; Concerned that the Akunu/Ayere/Kabba section, particualrly the Aba-Jinadu junction, has now become a hotbed for kidnappings and killings of Nigerians who ply the road daily and regularly;

Further Concerned that between 2023 and now, over 50 Nigerians have been killed on this axis by bandits; Alarmed that on Friday, 9th of February, 2024, an 18-seater commuter bus going from Lagos to Abuja was ambushed and shot at by bandits while on motion at the Aba-Jinadu junction, instantly killing the driver; abduction of all the passengers and the leaving behind of a 5-year old girl by the assailants;

Further Alarmed that up till today, the combined forces of the Ondo State Amotekun, the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Akunu and Ajowa local hunters with some other security officials, have been combing the bush in search of the kidnapped victims, all to no avail; Recalls that in the 9th House of Representatives, the former Honourable member of this hallowed chamber and now Honourable minister of Interior, Honourable Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, moved a motion on this same subject matter while calling for the establishment of a police station in Akunu, Ondo state but that has not been done; Disturbed that the insecurity in this axis has grossly affected the socio-economic situation in this axis and neighbouring towns and communities in Ekiti, Kogi, Niger and Kwara states,

The House accordingly resolves to:

(i) Hold a minute silence in honour of the slain driver of the 9th February incident and other incidents on this axis;

(ii) Urge the Federal Road Maintenance Agency and the Ministry of Works to fix the failed portions of the road Akunu/Ayere/Kabba road;

(iii) Urge the Service Chiefs to have a permanent joint patrol on this axis;

(iv) Urge the Inspector General of Police to establish the police station at Akunu, Ondo state.
