Suspected Drug Dealers Kill NDLEA Officer During Raid In Ondo State
A National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) officer has been shot dead by suspected drug dealers during a sting operation in Itanla, Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The officer, simply identified as Jide, lost his life while on duty as his team stormed a residential compound in the early hours of the day following intelligence about drug activities within the building.
According to a source who spoke anonymously with Daily Post, “Immediately they came in, some of them entered into the building to recover the exhibits while Officer Jide stood outside mounting the sentry guard.”
The source added, “Suspected gunmen came from nowhere and opened fire on him and he was shot in the neck. The officer was immediately rushed to the hospital, but the doctors on duty confirmed him dead on arrival. It is a very sad development.”
It was gathered that the team had come under heavy gunfire as they tried to access the ceiling of the building where hard drugs were allegedly hidden by the peddlers.
Efforts to speak with the NDLEA spokesperson in the state, Adebayo Solomon, were unsuccessful as he could not be reached for comment at the time of filing this report.
However, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident and disclosed that arrests had been made.
“We reinforced some of our officers down to the scene. We have been able to arrest four prime suspects who are now in our custody.
“We have also recovered a single-barrel gun, and investigation is also going on in collaboration with the NDLEA to bring the perpetrators of the dastardly attack and killing to book,” he said.
Ayanlade assured that a manhunt had been launched to capture the fleeing suspects involved in the attack.
