Super Falcons cruise past Tunisia 3-0 to open WAFCON 2025 campaign
Nigeria’s Super Falcons began their 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign in style, defeating Tunisia 3-0 at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.
Asisat Oshoala opened the scoring in the 4th minute, converting a cross. The early goal ensured Nigeria dominated possession throughout the match.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade orchestrated play from midfield, while Deborah Abiodun and Toni Payne provided pace and creativity.
Just before half-time, Nigeria doubled their lead through Rinsola Babajide, who paid tribute to Liverpool star Diogo Jota, hitting his celebration.
Initially ruled out for a foul in the build-up, the goal was later awarded after a VAR review in stoppage time.
In the second half, coach Justin Madugu introduced Christy Ucheibe, Esther Okoronkwo, and Chinwendu Ihezuo.
Ihezuo sealed the win in the 84th minute, slotting home calmly after a quick combination play involving Michelle Alozie and Ucheibe.
Tunisia rarely threatened Nigeria’s well-organized backline, led by Osinachi Ohale and Oluwatosin Demehin.
Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie had a relatively quiet evening, handling Tunisia’s few attempts with ease.
Nigeria now tops Group B and will look to build on this momentum in their next fixture.
