State Governor confirms implementation of N70,000 minimum wage

Cross River State Head of Service, Dr. Innocent Eteng, has confirmed implementation of the national minimum wage by the administration of Governor Bassey Otu.

The head of service disclosed this to newsmen on Tuesday in Calabar, adding that the state government implemented the national minimum wage according to agreement with organised labour.

Speaking shortly after unveiling the programme of activity to mark the ongoing Civil/Public Service Day celebration, Eteng stated that the Otu administration graciously implemented the minimum as written in the agreement.

He said, “His Excellency has graciously approved the N70,000 minimum wage, which we have implemented as written in the agreement.”

“Those saying the governor has not implemented the minimum wage are ignorant and naive. As the Head of Service, I talk to you authoritatively. I am giving you information which is bankable and can be taken to the bank,” he added.

Eteng stated that the national minimum wage was implemented by the Otu’s administration following an agreement reached with organised labour.

“I am saying that minimum wage across the state, across all levels, has been implemented to the latter. So commend the governor, His Excellency, for doing that,” he maintained.

The HOS enumerated activities for the Civil Service/Public Service lecture day to include a city walk by civil servants, a public lecture, an award of honour to deserving workers at the UJ Esuene Stadium, a keynote address by the Secretary to the State Government and a lecture by Rev. Fr. Bob Etta
