SDP Disowns El-Rufai, Says He’s Not A Member Or Spokesperson
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has officially distanced itself from former Kaduna State Governor Malam Nasir El-Rufai.
El-Rufai is not a member or representative of the SDP in any capacity.
The announcement was made by Inuwa Idris, the SDP Zonal Secretary for the North-West, during a press briefing in Kaduna.
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has formally dissociated itself from former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, declaring that he is neither a member nor a representative of the party in any form
This was made known during a press briefing held in Kaduna on Friday by the SDP Zonal Secretary for the North-West, Inuwa Idris. He expressed worry over El-Rufai’s recent appearances at strategy meetings and policy discussions where he allegedly spoke on behalf of the party.
“It has come to our attention that Malam Nasir El-Rufa’i has taken it upon himself to appear in various fora… purporting to speak on behalf of the Social Democratic Party. Let this be made unequivocally clear to all: Malam El-Rufa’i is not authorised, mandated, or recognised by the SDP in any capacity,” Idris said
He explained that El-Rufai’s name does not appear in the party’s membership register, has never been part of its programmes, and has never received any appointment from its leadership.
Idris reaffirmed that the only recognised figures in the SDP are Acting National Chairman Dr. Sadiq Umar, National Secretary Chief Olu Agunloye, and 2023 presidential candidate Prince Adewole Adebayo. He urged the public and stakeholders to ignore any statements or actions by El-Rufai made under the SDP banner.
The party also called for the suspension of Dr. Umar Ardo, alleging that he was using the SDP platform to promote another political movement the African Democratic Assembly (ADA).
“We pass a vote of no confidence on Malam Nasiru El-Rufa’i. Let this serve as a final warning… Any further impersonation and we will be compelled to call for a special committee by the powers of NEC to look into these matters with a view of publishing all the misdeeds across all available platforms,” Idris said.
He concluded by stressing that all official party communications must come through leaders legally recognised and authorised by the SDP.
