Remi Tinubu visits Aisha Buhari in Kaduna

The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Friday, paid a condolence visit to the Kaduna residence of the late former President, Muhammadu Buhari.

She was accompanied by wives of members of the National Assembly and some wives of state governors.

During the visit, Mrs Tinubu was received by former First Lady, Aisha Buhari, with both women sharing an embrace.

The visit comes less than a month after Buhari’s death on July 13, 2025, in London, at the age of 82.

The retired general, who battled a prolonged illness, left behind a political legacy that straddled both military and civilian rule.

Buhari first seized power through a military coup in December 1983, ruling until his ouster in 1985.

His regime became known for the “War Against Indiscipline” campaign, praised for its anti-corruption stance but criticised for authoritarian methods.

After years on the political sidelines and multiple failed presidential bids, Buhari made history in 2015 as the first opposition candidate to unseat an incumbent president in Nigeria.

He was re-elected in 2019 and completed his tenure in 2023.

Following his death, President Bola Tinubu declared seven days of national mourning and directed that flags be flown at half-mast nationwide.

Buhari’s body was flown back from London and buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, in line with Islamic rites.
