Reinstating Dr. Betta Edu: A Crucial Step in Alleviating Nigeria’s current Growing Hardship

The removal of the fuel subsidy has exacerbated the economic challenges faced by Nigerians, leading to a significant rise in the cost of living. Energy prices have soared, making it increasingly difficult for families to afford basic necessities. Scarcity of fuel has further intensified the hardship, with many households struggling to keep up with the costs of transportation, electricity, and cooking gas.

In addition to these economic pressures, Nigeria is grappling with severe insecurity. In the Northwest and North Central regions, banditry has displaced thousands, leaving them without homes or livelihoods. In the Northeast, the lingering threat of Boko Haram continues to devastate communities, forcing many to flee and seek refuge in overcrowded camps. Across the country, flooding has destroyed farmlands and homes, rendering countless people homeless and without a means of subsistence. These displaced populations are now facing heightened health risks due to inadequate shelter and poor living conditions.

At this critical moment in our nation’s history, the role of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation is more important than ever. The ministry was established to address exactly these kinds of crises, providing relief and support to those most affected by hardship. Had Dr. Betta Edu been in office, the ministry would likely have taken swift action to alleviate the suffering of millions of Nigerians.

Dr. Betta Edu has demonstrated a deep commitment to humanitarian work, and her leadership is sorely needed to navigate these challenging times. We therefore urge the President to consider the plight of the masses who put their trust in his leadership. Reinstating Dr. Edu as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation would not only bring much-needed relief to those suffering but would also restore hope among the populace as we endure this period of economic reform.

Now is the time for decisive action to ease the burdens on ordinary Nigerians, and Dr. Betta Edu is the right person to lead this effort.
