Ramadan: Governor Bago moves to cut price on food.
Read his speech below.
Speech by His Excellency, Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago at the meeting with critical stakeholders and leaders of thought on strategies for reduction of prices of essential commodities during the month of Ramadan held on the 15th of February, 2025.
Distinguished guests, members of the press, and my dear people of Niger State,
As we approach the holy month of Ramadan, I extend my heartfelt wishes for peace and prosperity to all our families. It is our duty as a government to ensure that everyone can celebrate this sacred time with dignity. Therefore, I am proud to announce a significant price reduction on essential goods during Ramadan.
I urge all dealers to comply with the prices set by the government. Act with the fear of Allah and remember our mission: to reach the vulnerable and less privileged in our communities. Our focus is on providing these goods at subsidized prices to those who need them most—not for profit, but for the social advantage of our people.
We are here to serve our citizens, and I ask for your commitment to fairness and transparency throughout this process. Our goal is to foster trust in how we distribute these essential items. We have over 50 million bags of grains ready to be distributed, and we will cut market prices by 40% to 50% to ensure that every family can afford what they need.
In our agricultural initiatives, I am excited to announce a partnership between the Niger State Government and the government of Saudi Arabia, aimed at breeding one million goats and rams. Additionally, we are working on breeding cows capable of producing 25 liters of milk per day. This strategic plan is not just about improving livestock; it’s about revitalizing the agricultural economy in Niger State.
I call upon all stakeholders to join us in promoting agriculture as a vital development priority. Together, this partnership with Saudi Arabia will allow us to enhance our agricultural output, as we aim to produce three million rams for Eid-Adha in 2025. This initiative will create jobs and strengthen our agricultural value chain.
I am also pleased to share that the Brazilian government has invited us to collaborate on livestock development. This partnership will provide us with valuable knowledge and techniques to benefit our farmers and further enhance our agricultural sector.
Furthermore, we are dedicated to empowering one million women in agriculture, recognizing their invaluable role in our economy. Supporting women in this field will lead to a stronger and more equitable agricultural landscape.
Finally, I want to emphasize the importance of integrity in our initiatives. Thanks to our efforts to combat fraud, we have saved 5 billion Naira, which is now being invested in building new primary health care centers across Niger State. This underscores our commitment to transparency and accountability.
Together, let us embrace these initiatives with determination and a spirit of cooperation. Let’s ensure that every member of our community feels the support of a government that prioritizes their well-being.
Thank you for your continued support, and may Allah bless our efforts and our beloved Niger State.
