Police Recover Car Of Kidnapped Anambra Lawmaker, Justice Azuka As Whereabouts Remains Unknown
SaharaReporters had reported that Azuka was kidnapped on Tuesday night while returning home along Ugwunapampa Road in Inland Town, Onitsha, the state’s commercial hub.
The Anambra State Police Command has said that its operatives have recovered the car of the lawmaker representing Onitsha North Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, kidnapped by gunmen.
SaharaReporters had reported that Azuka was kidnapped on Tuesday night while returning home along Ugwunapampa Road in Inland Town, Onitsha, the state’s commercial hub.
Confirming the abduction, Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, had said efforts were underway to rescue the lawmaker and arrest his abductors.
On Thursday, Ikenga said, “Following an intense ongoing operation, Police Operatives attached to the Inland Town Division have recovered the vehicle of Mr Justice Azuka, Honourable State House of Assembly member representing Onitsha North Constituency, who was kidnapped on 24/12/2024 by 9:20pm, while returning home at Ugwunapampa road, Onitsha by yet unidentified persons.
“The separate rescue team sighted the abandoned vehicle at Upper Iweka Road.
“Meanwhile the Commissioner of Police CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has charged the deployed rescue team to intensify efforts for the possible rescue of the Honourable member.”
Azuka, who is a member of the Labour Party, had recently reclaimed his mandate after a court nullified the victory of Douglas Egbuna of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 election.
