Police debunk cla!ms of Boko Haram arrests in Lagos
The Lagos State Police Command has strongly refuted recent reports alleging that hundreds of Boko Haram suspects were apprehended in the state.
The command dismissed the claims as entirely false and aimed at inciting fear among the public.
In a statement issued on Friday by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police clarified that no such arrests had taken place anywhere across the state.
“The outcome of the investigation reveals that there is nowhere throughout Lagos State that the group mentioned in the report – Boko Haram – was seen, sighted, or arrested,” Hundeyin stated.
He further explained that police teams visited the trailer park communities cited in the viral report, but community leaders, operators, and drivers in those areas confirmed that no such individuals were seen or arrested.
To ensure thorough verification, the police deployed detectives, the Lagos State Police Intelligence Department (SID), and other specialised units to the named locations. However, none of the findings supported the claims in the circulating write-up.
“Therefore, the report in its entirety is false, malicious, and ill-intended to cause fear and apprehension in the minds of the public,” Hundeyin emphasised.
The command urged residents to disregard the report and treat it as a baseless fabrication. Hundeyin described the write-up as unfortunate, despicable, and a figment of the author’s imagination, meant only to spread unnecessary panic.
The police reassured the public of their continued vigilance and commitment to ensuring safety and security throughout Lagos State.
