Oyo Assembly Calls For Disciplinary Action Against Lagelu FM, Presenter For Disrespecting Soun Of Ogbomoso

The Oyo State House of Assembly has strongly condemned the alleged derogatory remarks made against the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye.
The comments in question were reportedly made by Dr. Doyin Odebowale, a former senior aide to the late Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, during a recent broadcast on Lagelu FM in Ibadan.
The lawmakers described the comments as factually incorrect, disrespectful, and inciting, and emphasised the importance of protecting the integrity of traditional rulers in Oyo State, News Agency of Nigeria reports.
The matter was brought to the floor via a motion sponsored by the Majority Leader of the House, Mr. Sanjo Adedoyin (Ogbomoso South-PDP), which received unanimous support from the legislators.
The lawmakers noted that the alleged remarks breached the Nigeria Broadcasting Code of ethics and the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) Act, Cap N11, LFN 2004.
The lawmakers also urged the Office of the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice to pursue legal action against Mr. Odebowale.
Additionally, they requested the Ministry of Information and Orientation to direct the NBC to take disciplinary action against Lagelu FM and its presenter for failing to uphold professional broadcasting ethics.
They emphasised the crucial role of traditional institutions in preserving the culture, heritage, and unity of communities in Oyo State.
Consequently, they urged the state’s executive arm to take decisive action to protect traditional institutions from unwarranted attacks.
Lagelu FM and its presenter, Temitayo Oyeladun, popularly known as ‘Aboo Oro,’ were criticised for failing to uphold professional broadcasting ethics during the controversial programme.
The House called on the Ministry of Information and Orientation to collaborate with the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to impose disciplinary measures against the station.
As part of the corrective actions, lawmakers demanded a public apology from Lagelu FM, along with a broadcast retracting the alleged misleading and offensive remarks.
Reaffirming their commitment to respecting cultural custodians, the assembly emphasised the need for media organisations to operate within ethical and legal boundaries.
