NRC announces resumption of Warri-Itakpe train service
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced resumption of train services on the Warri-Itakpe route.
The NRC made the announcement in a statement on X on Saturday.
The development comes on after rail operations were suspended for two days on the corridor.
On February 18, the Warri-Itakpe train service reportesly experienced a technical glitch, thereby delaying passengers at Ajaokuta overnight.
The corporation, in response, announced a 100 percent refund to all affected passengers due to the incident.
The NRC also appreciated the Kogi state government for providing security at the site of the glitch.
Providing update in the statement on Saturday, NRC said the train, which was suspended for two days, had resumed operations.
According to the corporation, the suspension was due to essential technical maintenance aimed at ensuring the continued safety, reliability, and efficiency of the train service.
“The train operations on Warri Itakpe train service were suspended on Thursday and Friday, February 20 & 21 2025, for essential technical maintenance,” the statement reads.
“This proactive measure is necessary to ensure the continued safety, reliability, and efficiency of our services.”
The NRC also apologised to Nigerians for any inconvenience the incident had caused.
“Normal train operations will resume on Saturday, February 22, 2025,” it added.
In December 2024, the NRC suspended the Warri-Itakpe train service after a “minor derailment”.
The incident reportedly occurred on December 22 at the Okpara station in the Ethiope east LGA of Delta state, leaving passengers stranded overnight.
