NNPC Ltd Debunks False Claims on Port Harcourt Refinery Operations
…Urges Public to Disregard Misleading Statements

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has refuted allegations made by Timothy Mgbere, a self-proclaimed “community person,” regarding the operational status of the Port Harcourt Refinery. Mgbere’s assertions, shared in a widely circulated video, falsely claim that the recent restreaming of the refinery and the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) truck-out were staged events.
In response, NNPC Ltd. clarified the following:
1. Integrated Operations:
Contrary to Mgbere’s claims, the Old and New Port Harcourt Refineries operate as an integrated system with a shared terminal for product loading. Storage tanks and gantries serve both refineries, enabling seamless load-out operations.
2. Contradictory Claims:
Mgbere alleged that the PMS truck-out involved “old stock” from the Old Refinery while simultaneously questioning its movement to the shared gantry. This contradiction highlights his lack of understanding of refinery operations.
3. Production Capacity Misrepresentation
The assertion that the refinery produces 1.4 million barrels per day is grossly inaccurate. The refinery’s nameplate capacity is 60,000 barrels per day, currently achieving 90% throughput. This translates to the production of 1.4 million liters of PMS daily, alongside diesel and kerosene.
4. Mischief and Ignorance:
The claims, riddled with inaccuracies and inconsistencies, reflect a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and undermine the achievements of NNPC Ltd.
NNPC Ltd. reiterates its commitment to transparency and efficiency in its operations and urges the public to disregard baseless claims.
