Nigerian Polytechnic Students Plan Mass Protest Against JAMB Registrar Oloyede, Demand Removal Over NYSC Stalemate

Nigerian Polytechnic Students Plan Mass Protest Against JAMB Registrar Oloyede, Demand Removal Over NYSC Stalemate

The protest is scheduled for September 12th, 2024, in Abuja.

The National Association of Polytechnic students (NAPS) have called for a protest against the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) boss, Prof Is-haq Oloyede.

This was communicated in a statement by the Senate arm of the union.

In the letter NAPS asked that all federal polytechnics, state polytechnics, private polytechnics, federal college of Agriculture, federal Cooperative College and all other institutions issuing Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and. Higher National Diploma (HND) to partake in the action.

The protest letter read: “The leadership of the NAPS Senate hereby invites the entire Polytechnic Students, SUG Presidents, NAPS national executive, NAPS zonal structures and NAPS stakeholders in the fight against JAMB registrar Professor Olanrewaju Is-haq Oloyede bad policy against Nigeria Polytechnic students and Polytechnic education in Nigeria”.

“This protest is a call for removal of JAMB registrar or he changes all of his bad policy against Nigeria Polytechnic sector” the statement further read.

The protest is scheduled for September 12th, 2024, in Abuja.

Speaking with SaharaReporters on phone, the National Association of Polytechnic students Senate President, Adeniki Temitope, alleged that JAMB instructed the NYSC to disallow Polytechnic students especially those who did Part Time at the National Diploma level and full time at the Higher National Diploma level from serving.

“We have a case where students who did part-time for their National Diploma level and then full time for their Higher National Diploma are denied the right to serve. This is even after JAMB collected N5000 to N6000 per student for JAMB regularisation. This scheme where students do part time for national diploma and then full time for Higher National Diploma has been existing for years before Oloyede became JAMB registrar and Polytechnic students should not be taken as second class citizens in the country” he told SaharaReporters

He noted that all entreaties to reach JAMB had failed, noting the numbers of students who are affected are in their high numbers and thus an unfortunate situation.
