Nigerian Immigration Hands Over Wanted Enugu Native Doctor Arrested For Ritual Killing To Police

Obieze, who hails from Umuojor village in the Isiagu Community of Enugu State, had been on the run and was earlier declared wanted by the Nigerian Police Force in connection with the kidnapping of a 13-year-old girl and multiple ritual killings.

The Nigeria Immigration Service has handed over an Enugu native doctor, Obi Levi Obieze, also known as Levi Obu Onyeka, alias “Ezeani” and “E-Dey-Play-E-Dey-Show”, to the Lagos State Police Command following his arrest over ritual killing and kidnapping allegations.

Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the handover in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday morning.

“ONGOING: @nigimmigration, Lagos State Command hands over wanted suspect, Obi Levi Obieze, to @LagosPoliceNG at the Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja,” Hundeyin wrote.

Obieze, who hails from Umuojor village in the Isiagu Community of Enugu State, had been on the run and was earlier declared wanted by the Nigerian Police Force in connection with the kidnapping of a 13-year-old girl and multiple ritual killings.

The police rescued a teenage girl abducted while walking to the farm with her father.

She was reportedly found in a shrine believed to be operated by Obieze. The shrine, located in the suspect’s hometown, became the scene of horror when police discovered two decomposing bodies hidden in a pit sealed with concrete.

Three suspects linked to the abduction, Uche Kingsley Agumba (33), Ilo Nweze Onyedikachi (36), and Ejike Odinwankpa (38), were apprehended by the Enugu State Police Command, while Obieze had fled and remained at large until Thursday.

The native doctor was eventually arrested on Thursday by the Nigeria Immigration Service at Gbaji checkpoint along the Badagry-Seme Road to end Obieze’s escape attempt.

The suspect was reportedly trying to flee Nigeria on a motorcycle when he was nabbed.

In a statement issued by the NIS spokesperson, ACI AS Akinlabi, the Service confirmed Obieze’s arrest and said his identity was verified using a National Identity Management Commission enrollment slip found in his possession.

“He is currently in custody and his identity has been confirmed. During the initial questioning, he admitted to the alleged crimes,” the statement read.

“The Nigeria Immigration Service is collaborating with the Nigeria Police Force for the suspect’s handover and further investigation while reaffirming its commitment to border security,” Akinlabi added.

The case has ignited fresh outrage over the unchecked activities of native doctors and ritualists, especially in southeastern Nigeria, where cultural traditions often blur the line between mysticism and criminality.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that a chilling discovery had rocked the community of Umuma Ndiagu in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, as residents uncovered soakaway pits where dead bodies were found.

The place is in Ezeani’s compound, and the victims were believed to have been kidnapped and buried alive for ritual.

In a viral video obtained by SaharaReporters, one of the shocked community members recounted the horror.

“We have caught the killers. They kill people. People’s dead bodies are full inside here. They have killed a lot of people. We just rescued a 13-year-old child who they wanted to use for rituals,” one of the community members said in the video.

“This is happening in Ojor’s house in Umuma Ndiagu, Ezeagu in Enugu State. This is one of them here,” referring to a suspect apprehended at the scene.
