Nigerian-American rapper dies in US

A popular Nigerian-American rapper, Benedict Ihesiba Jr, professionally known as OG Maco, has died in a hospital in Los Angeles, United States. He died on Thursday.

A statement of his death was released on Instagram by his family.

His life was a testament to resilience, creativity, and boundless love.

“Through his music, passion, and unwavering spirit, he touched so many lives and left a lasting impact,” the family wrote.

The rap artiste, who passed away at the age of 32, was hospitalised for weeks before he succumbed to death.

Maco’s family had said in a statement on December 16, 2024 that he was in critical but stable condition, adding, “We are staying hopeful as he continues to fight.”

While his family did not reveal the cause of his hospitalisation, foreign entertainment media,including TMZ and Billboard, said he had been bedridden from December 12, 2024, after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The deceased came into the limelight with his 2014 debut single, “U Guessed It” and signed a deal with Quality Control Music the same year.
