New Update Emerges from National Assembly On Creation Of New State
Hon. Philip Agbese, who represents Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency and serves as the Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, has urged the Federal Government to create a new state called Apa and establish additional local government areas in Benue State’s Zone C.
Speaking ahead of the Constitutional Review Public Hearing for North Central B, he said the creation of Apa State and new LGAs will bring government closer to the people, improve public services, open up economic opportunities, and promote transparency.
He suggested carving out Avovo, Ari, and Ufia from Ado; Okam and Owukpa from Ogbadibo; and Edumoga Ehaje and Edumoga Itso from Okpokwu to form the proposed LGAs.
According to him, this restructuring will unlock the region’s potential and ensure that governance better meets local needs.
He added that having more accessible local governments would help citizens connect more easily with their leaders, leading to quicker and more effective responses to their concerns.
Agbese described Apa State as a potential driver of development, stressing that the area has the human and natural resources to thrive.
He believes statehood would help tackle issues of marginalisation in the region and give them the autonomy and resources needed for growth.
While acknowledging the challenges that may come with creating new states and LGAs, he expressed confidence that these obstacles can be overcome with the support of the people.
He called on community leaders, traditional rulers, and all citizens to support the initiative, urging everyone to take advantage of the ongoing constitutional review process to help shape a better future for the region.
