NDLEA cracks down on drug hotspots in Kano, arrests 19 in major operation
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, has intensified its war against illicit drug use and associated criminal activities, following a sweeping operation in several notorious hotspots across the state.
In a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, and issued on behalf of the Strategic Commander, CN AI Ahmad, the agency disclosed that the coordinated raid targeted drug-infested areas including Dorayi, Gwammanja, Zango, and Jaen.
The operation resulted in the arrest of 19 suspects and the recovery of various illicit substances.
According to the statement, the crackdown was part of an ongoing effort to dismantle drug joints and criminal enclaves that often serve as breeding grounds for violence, thuggery, and social unrest.
“Drug abuse is a primary enabler of many criminal activities, often serving as the catalyst for violence and disorder in our communities,” the statement read. “By targeting these hotspots, the agency aims to disrupt the cycle of drug abuse and violence that plagues our neighborhoods.”
The operation highlights the Kano Command’s proactive approach under the leadership of CN AI Ahmad, with a clear focus on not just drug seizures but also on community safety and crime prevention.
The Command also called on the public to remain vigilant and assist the agency by providing timely intelligence on suspicious activities, stressing that community collaboration remains key to eradicating the menace of drug abuse.
This latest action reaffirms the NDLEA’s commitment to restoring safety and order in Kano and reinforces its broader mission of curbing the illicit drug trade across Nigeria.
