NBA condemns attack on lawyer, tackles Osun Speaker

The Nigerian Bar Association, Osogbo branch, Osun State, has condemned the attack on a lawyer, Muhydeen Yusuf, by some people alleged to be aides to the Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun.

Chairman of the NBA, Mr Yemi Abiona, alleged the speaker of encouraging the attack on Yusuf by verbally assaulting him first before his aides descended on the lawyer.

Yusuf was said to have been attacked in the process of executing an order of court with some policemen and bailiffs at the Technical area of Osogbo, on Friday, in the presence of Egbedun.

But the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Olamide Tiamiyu, said the speaker and his aides were not involved in the attack on the lawyer.

Tiamiyu claimed that some people who were angry at the spot of the execution process wanted to mob Yusuf, but was rescued by one of the security aides to the speaker.

One of the officers in mufti in the speaker’s entourage tried to provide safety for him (Yusuf) from the mob and took him straight to their car, which he never objected to,” Tiamiyu said.

Speaking with Sunday PUNCH, Yusuf said, “We went to execute an order of the court around Technical area, opposite Landero filling station, Osogbo. The people on the land were already complying with the order, some were already vacating the land.

“A few minutes later, the Speaker arrived at the scene with his convoy. He told the policemen and the bailiff to vacate the place. I cautioned him that his action was not well guided, and I gesticulated by pointing my fingers at him. He said I was mad for pointing a finger at him. Before I knew it, his aides started beating me. He (the speaker) supervised the assault on me and the court bailiff.”
