National Assembly Suspends Activities to Honour Late President Buhari
All legislative proceedings at the National Assembly have been suspended in tribute to former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday at a London clinic after a prolonged illness.
The Clerk of the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, confirmed the suspension in a statement issued on Monday.
According to the announcement, the directive came from the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and it takes immediate effect. Legislative activities will remain on hold until Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
“All members of the National Assembly are urged to reschedule their engagements to enable full participation in the burial activities of the late president,” the statement read.
The Senate and House leadership also extended their sympathies to the Nigerian people, the government and citizens of Katsina State, and the late president’s family, including his wives and children.
“President Muhammadu Buhari will be remembered for his dedication to Nigeria’s unity and his unwavering integrity,” the statement concluded.
“May Almighty Allah grant his soul eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus.”
