N3.4Billion Worth Of Opioids Seized In Lagos, Rivers; Drugs Hidden In Chocolate Tins Uncovered At Lagos Airport
The largest portion of the seizure occurred on Tuesday, April 29, during a joint examination at the Port Harcourt Ports Complex, Onne, in collaboration with the Nigeria Customs Service and other security agencies.
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted a massive haul of opioids valued at over ₦3.4 billion in Lagos State and Port Harcourt in Rivers State.
The operation led to the seizure of 3.5 million pills of opioids and 163,000 bottles of codeine syrup, along with 20kg of Canadian Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, smuggled in food containers, according to Femi Babafemi, Director, Media & Advocacy, in a statement on Sunday.

Officers uncovered two million pills of Tafrodol 225mg and 163,000 bottles of codeine syrup hidden inside a watch-listed container.
The statement reads in part, “On the same day in Lagos, NDLEA agents recovered 1.5 million pills of a controlled opioid from a suspect, Olarenwaju Wahab, in the Alaba-Rago area of Ojo. Investigations traced the source of the shipment to Q104B Road 25, Victoria Garden City, Lekki, the residence of Obinna Kenneth, who is currently on the run.
“Further intensifying efforts at curbing drug smuggling, NDLEA operatives stationed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) intercepted 42 parcels of Canadian Loud weighing 20kg.
“The cannabis was cleverly concealed in chocolate tins, milo beverage cans, and kidney bean packages within cargo arriving on a British Airways flight from Canada.
“Between Wednesday, April 30, and Saturday, May 3, at least three suspects were arrested in connection with the airport seizure, including Monsurat Ewawunmi Lawson, the alleged receiver of the consignment.”
