Kwankwaso reveals why French ambassador to Nigeria visited him
With uncertainty hovering in the political atmosphere of Nigeria ahead of the country’s 2027 elections, political figures have begun to make their calculated moves to better their lots in the general elections.
Former governor of Kano state, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has for several weeks been a frequent feature in political speculations and permutations for the 2027 presidential election.
The former governor is rumoured to have perfected plans, reached a pact with president Bola Ahmed Tinubu that will necessitate his switch from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC). He is to ditch NNPP, the party through which he regained through a proxy the control of the Kano state government at the expense of his political friend-turn-foe, Umar Ganduje.

On the pact between him and president Bola Ahmed Tinubu, it is speculated that the president has decided to substitute vice president Kashim Shettima for Kwankwaso to better position himself for reelection in the face of his dwindling acceptance in the country. Kwankwaso’s large political followers across states of the north is said to have made him inevitable for president Tinubu’s reelection in 2027 at the expense Kashim Shettima who is considered by Tinubu’s camp as having lesser political influence in the north.
Hence, Kwankwaso through his X handle, revealed that French ambassador to Nigeria, Marc Fonbaustier and his team visited him in his Abuja home. He said the visit was to strengthen Nigeria’s bilateral relationship and collaboration with the French embassy.
He wrote: “This afternoon, I was honoured to receive the French Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Marc Fonbaustier, and his team, at my Abuja residence”.

“The visit was centered on strengthening the mutual relationship between our countries, and the quest to explore more ways of collaboration with the Embassy”.
However, the meeting has been attributed to the political development in the country by speculators; this is due to president Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s close relationship with France.
