Kogi Govt. Launches Multi-Agency Operation to Secure Worship Centres, Schools, Others
The Kogi State Government has launched a coordinated multi-agency security operation aimed at protecting worship centres, schools and other vulnerable public locations across the state.
The move follows a directive issued by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo in response to recent attacks on worshippers and educational institutions in neighbouring states.
Chairman of Lokoja Local Government Area, Hon. Abdullahi Adamu, confirmed the development after a strategic security meeting with heads of security agencies to assess and strengthen safety measures in the state capital.
Speaking after the closed-door meeting, the Lokoja Area Commander of the Nigeria Police Force, ACP Abubakar Umar, said the meeting reviewed the local security landscape and adopted immediate preventive measures to forestall any threat within Lokoja and beyond
According to him, the new arrangement will see five joint security teams—comprising operatives of the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Department of State Services (DSS) and local vigilante groups—conducting routine and special patrols in remote and high-risk areas.
The joint teams will pay special attention to churches, mosques and schools, while also discouraging night gatherings in communities identified as vulnerable.
ACP Umar disclosed that patrols and location mapping will commence immediately, to be followed by community sensitization campaigns and strict compliance operations.
He urged residents, religious leaders and community stakeholders to cooperate fully with security personnel, emphasizing that the proactive approach is designed to prevent avoidable attacks and maintain lasting peace in Kogi State.
