Kidnappers’ drugs, food, fuel suppliers, weapon repairer arrested in Kwara
The Kwara State Police Command and the Department of State Services (DSS) have said that security operatives have made several arrests, including drug, food, and fuel suppliers linked to criminals involved in recent crimes in parts of the state.
Speaking with journalists in Ilorin after the State Security Council meeting held to discuss various security developments within the state and along its borders, the State Police Commissioner, Adekimi Ojo, flanked by top security personnel, said the security agencies also arrested a man who confessed to repairing weapons for kidnappers.
The Kwara CP, who said the Security Council meeting was convened by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, expressed the commitment of the government and security agencies to securing the release of abducted persons unhurt.
He said commanders and top government officials, at the meeting, reviewed strategies to strengthen public safety and curtail the threats posed by organised kidnapping gangs, adding that the governor received briefings from security commanders following Tuesday’s attack on the Eruku community in the Ekiti Local Government Area of the state.
The police boss also said that heightened security deployments, especially air interdictions, had dislodged the kidnappers from their former hideouts, particularly in the Ifelodun Local Government Area, calling for continuous air bombardment of areas identified as criminal hideouts.
Ojo said the Security Council observed the damaging impact of social media on the country’s fight against violent non-state actors, expressing concern over how security information is disseminated, including ransom demands and the amplification of information that exposes citizens to further danger.
