The APC party said this while dismissing claims by Kwankwaso, a former presidential candidate of the NNPP in the 2023 general elections that he would significantly reduce the APC’s votes in the state during the 2027 elections.
The All Progressives Congress (APC), Kano State chapter, has blasted a former Governor of the state, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), asking him to “stop daydreaming and face reality.”
The APC party said this while dismissing claims by Kwankwaso, a former presidential candidate of the NNPP in the 2023 general elections that he would significantly reduce the APC’s votes in the state during the 2027 elections.
In a statement issued on Thursday, APC State Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, ridiculed Kwankwaso’s statement, calling it laughable and urging him to focus on regaining his membership in the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), from which he was reportedly expelled.
Abbas referred to Kwankwaso as a “political refugee,” accusing him of clinging to Governor Abba Yusuf in a desperate attempt to stay relevant in Nigerian politics.
“Kwankwaso needs to stop living in denial and face the facts. His misguided belief that he can reduce the APC’s votes in Kano is nothing more than wishful thinking. The APC remains the party of choice for the people,” Abbas said.
The APC chairman further alleged that the NNPP’s performance in the 2023 elections was due to “manipulated votes” and vowed that such tactics would not be tolerated in future elections
Our supporters have no reason to worry about Kwankwaso, who was expelled from the NNPP due to his lack of vision and selfishness.
“He is now a political wanderer,” Abbas asserted, adding, “Kwankwaso left the APC because he couldn’t align with our progressive values.
His inflated ego also led him to abandon the PDP. Now, even the NNPP has rejected him, leaving him without a political home.”
Abbas assured the people of Kano that the APC is ready to reclaim the state in 2027 and “liberate the people from Kwankwaso’s undue influence,” which he claimed comes from his “castle” on Miller Road.
The APC’s statement was in response to remarks made by Kwankwaso during a meeting with stakeholders from Tsanyawa Local Government Area at his residence in Kano.
At the meeting, Kwankwaso stated that his team’s efforts in the 2023 elections had sidelined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), leaving them with only 15,000 votes in Kano.
“We achieved this despite being a new party and starting our campaign late. Now, it’s our turn to reduce the APC’s votes.
“We will work tirelessly to ensure that their votes in Kano drop to less than 15,000 in 2027,” Kwankwaso had declared.
The former governor had also claimed to have received a group of “former councillors and senior special advisers” from the Abdullahi Ganduje-led administration, who have pledged their allegiance to his camp.
