JUSTICE IS KEY TO LASTING PEACE
I commend the efforts of the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and other key stakeholders, including the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa and Heads of Security Agencies at the recent Expanded Meeting of the Intelligence Community Committee (ICC).
The strategic meeting on enhancing intelligence sharing and national security is timely and necessary. However, we must remember that arrest alone is not enough. Justice must go beyond detention, leading to urgent and visible prosecution. Where required, special courts should be established to fast-track the prosecution of those behind the killings, kidnappings, and terror in our communities.
Let the people see justice being served.
Expanding the ICC is commendable. Yet, it must also include the voices of the people. I appeal that the Presidential Community Engagement Team be actively brought on board to convey the lived experiences of community members and share real-time community concerns. Security must be people-driven, and solutions must reflect their realities.
