Just In : President Son Risks 25-years jail term

US President’s Son Risks 25-Year Jail Term As Court Hears He Texted Using Crack Cocaine After Illegal Gun Purchase

According to the BBC, Mr Biden, 54, texted that he was “sleeping on a car smoking crack” in one message sent to his brother’s widow days after the firearm purchase, an FBI agent testifying at his trial said.

At the criminal trial of Hunter Biden, the son of U.S. President Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, the court heard from an FBI agent that Hunter texted that he used crack cocaine shortly after he illegally bought a gun in 2018.

According to the BBC, Mr Biden, 54, texted that he was “sleeping on a car smoking crack” in one message sent to his brother’s widow days after the firearm purchase, an FBI agent testifying at his trial said.

The US president’s son is accused of intentionally lying on a form about his drug use to buy a revolver and ammunition from a gun shop in Wilmington, Delaware.

In his defence, his lawyers claim that Hunter stated the truth as he was in recovery at the time of the incident so he was truthful when he wrote on the form that he was not a user of illicit drugs as he bought the weapon.

The case marks the first time a sitting US president’s son has gone on trial.

Mr Biden could face up to 25 years in prison if found guilty of all three federal counts in the case.

The president’s son also faces a trial in California in September on charges of failing to pay $1.4m in taxes.

Federal prosecutors have filed tax charges against Hunter.

He allegedly spent his money on “drugs, escorts and girlfriends, luxury hotels and rental properties, exotic cars, clothing, and other items of a personal nature, in short, everything but his taxes”.

According to BBC, the nine-count indictment added that he schemed to evade at least $1.4m (£1.1m) in federal taxes from 2016-19.

His spending amounted to about $1m in 2016, $1.4m in 2017, $1.8m in 2018, and $600,000 in 2019, according to the charge sheet.

The three felonies and six misdemeanours include failure to file and pay taxes, false tax return and evasion of assessment.
