JUST IN : NANS JCC ONDO CHAIRMAN WELCOMES NANS SENATORS, STAKEHOLDERS, LEADERS, CONTESTANTS, AND NIGERIAN STUDENTS TO THE 2024 NANS SOUTH-WEST ZONE-D CONVENTION

The Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Council (JCC), Ondo State Axis, Comrade Oluwarotimi Tobiloba Joshua (JOSH), extends a warm and heartfelt welcome to all NANS Senators, stakeholders, leaders, contestants, and the entire Nigerian student body to the 2024 NANS South-West Zone-D Convention. This prestigious event began on Tuesday, 15th October, and will run until Friday, 18th October 2024, at the Arcade, Igbatoro Road, Akure, Ondo State.

Comrade JOSH emphasizes the importance of this gathering as a platform for fostering unity, collaboration, and growth among Nigerian students across the South-West geopolitical zone. The convention, which brings together student leaders, stakeholders, and representatives from six South-Western states (Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, and Oyo), serves as a pivotal moment for the student body to come together and elect new leadership that will guide NANS South-West Zone-D towards continued progress and advocacy for students’ welfare.

In his address, Comrade JOSH reiterated the necessity of peaceful coexistence and mutual respect throughout the convention, urging all participants to conduct themselves in a manner that promotes harmony and unity. He highlighted the significance of the convention not just as a forum for leadership election, but also as an opportunity to demonstrate the strength of Nigerian students in embracing peace and setting an example for constructive engagement.

“We are proud to host this prestigious convention here in the Sunshine State, and it is imperative that we uphold the principles of peace, cooperation, and unity,” Comrade JOSH stated. “This event marks a defining moment for student leadership across the South-West zone, and I encourage all participants to engage positively, with the understanding that the strength of our student body lies in our ability to work together harmoniously.”

He further charged the attending comrades, especially NANS Senators and contestants, to prioritize non-violent communication and maintain decorum throughout the proceedings. He reminded every comrade that the core values of NANS are rooted in fostering dialogue and ensuring that students’ interests are championed through peaceful means.

Comrade JOSH expressed his appreciation to the Ondo State Government for its continued support in making this year’s convention possible. He highlighted the government’s role in providing a conducive environment and security measures to guarantee the safety of all attendees.

“We deeply appreciate the support of the Ondo State Government for welcoming Nigerian students from across the South-West to Akure for this convention. The arrangements made by the government, particularly in terms of security, reflect their commitment to ensuring that this event runs smoothly,” he noted.

He assured all attendees that security personnel would be deployed at the venue during the convention to maintain order and oversee the electioneering process. This, he said, should reassure all participants of their safety and encourage them to fully engage in the event’s activities without fear.

Comrade JOSH extended a special welcome to the distinguished NANS Senators, acknowledging their pivotal role in the legislative framework of NANS and the representation of student interests. He also lauded the NANS stakeholders and leaders for their tireless efforts and dedication to advancing the cause of Nigerian students. Their guidance, he said, continues to shape the future of student governance in Nigeria.

“To the NANS Senators, leaders, and stakeholders, I thank you for your unyielding commitment to the progress of Nigerian students. Your leadership has been instrumental in guiding NANS towards achieving its objectives, and I am confident that your influence will be felt positively throughout this convention.”

Comrade JOSH also recognized the courage and determination of the NANS contestants vying for leadership positions. He commended their willingness to serve and encouraged them to approach the contest with integrity, reminding them that their actions will serve as an example for future leaders of the association.

“To the contestants, I commend your bravery and enthusiasm in stepping forward to take up leadership roles. Remember that leadership is about service, and as you contest for these positions, I urge you to do so with the utmost integrity and respect for the democratic process. Your conduct during this convention will set the tone for future generations of student leaders.”

As the 2024 NANS South-West Zone-D Convention commences, Comrade JOSH is optimistic that the event will not only be a success but also set a benchmark for future conventions in terms of organization, student participation, and leadership transitions. He encouraged all delegates and students to take full advantage of the opportunities for networking, knowledge sharing, and engagement that the convention provides.

“I believe that this convention will be a defining one for us as Nigerian students in the South-West. It is my hope that we will leave here not only with new leadership but also with a renewed sense of purpose and commitment to advancing the interests of students across the zone. Let us embrace this opportunity to unite for the common good, and in doing so, set a precedent for excellence in student governance.”

In closing, Comrade JOSH once again welcomed all attending comrades to the Sunshine State, expressing confidence that the 2024 NANS South-West Zone-D Convention would be a milestone event for student leadership and the Nigerian student body at large.

“Welcome to Akure, Ondo State, the Sunshine State! I look forward to a peaceful, engaging, and successful convention. Let us work together to ensure that this event strengthens our unity and moves us closer to a brighter future for Nigerian students.” he concluded.
