Just In : Governor Unveils N5 Billion Intervention Fund To Tackle Economic Hardship
In a bid to address the prevailing economic challenges faced by the residents of Ogun State, Governor Dapo Abiodun has announced a comprehensive N5 billion intervention fund spanning various sectors.
The governor, speaking from his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, disclosed the phased initiatives designed to alleviate the economic burdens citizens are grappling with.
Our heritage reporter gathered that the measures include education support grants for students, a health insurance scheme, clearing backlog salary deductions for workers, and the distribution of food palliatives.
Governor Abiodun acknowledged the nationwide protests triggered by rising food prices, the depreciation of the naira, and the removal of fuel subsidies.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to proactively addressing these concerns and ensuring the welfare of the people during these challenging times.
In the education sector, the state will provide a one-time N10,000 education support grant to approximately 100,000 pupils in public primary and secondary schools.
Additionally, a N50,000 education grant will be extended to all 27,600 indigent students in tertiary institutions nationwide.
The health sector will witness the implementation of an insurance health cover, benefiting over 70,000 individuals, including pregnant women, children, the elderly, market women, and other members of the informal sector.
To mitigate the impact of economic hardship, food palliatives, including rice and other essential items, will be distributed to around 300,000 households across the state.
Addressing civil servants, Governor Abiodun assured the commencement of clearing the backlog of inherited deductions.
The state government commits to a monthly payment of N500 million towards outstanding deductions, totaling an immediate intervention of approximately N5 billion across all sectors of the state economy.
Governor Abiodun concluded by emphasizing the government’s primary responsibility to provide security for the lives and properties of all residents in the state.
