Just In : Ekiti To Distribute 10,000 Bags Of Maize To Livestock Farmers

The government of Ekiti State has announced that on Thursday, February 8th, 2024, it will distribute 10,000 bags of maize to livestock farmers in the state as part of its palliative measures.

Mr. Ebenezer Boluwade, the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, disclosed this in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday.

He said that the current batch of distribution, which would be the third in the sharing of grains from the Federal Government as palliatives to different sectors of vulnerable people, is primarily targeted at boosting the production of livestock farmers.

The Commissioner who also doubles as the Chairman of the State Special Committee on palliatives, said that notice of “Not for Sale” would be stamped on the bags containing the grains as beneficiaries of the scheme are not allowed to sell but inject them into their farms as carbohydrate for their livestock.

Boluwade cautioned against dishonest selling of the grains, emphasizing that such actions would undermine the objectives of the scheme. He clarified that the distribution of maize to livestock farmers aims to alleviate the effects of the current high costs of livestock feed, which have led to the closure of many farms.

  1. The Commissioner said that the beneficiaries are expected to be seated by 11.30 am at the ADP Office in Odo Ado, Ado Ekiti venue of the event.
