IYC Celebrates,Ace Niger Delta Practicing Journalist, Rasheed Olanrewaju on His Birthday

The Ijaw Youth Council has described the ace broadcast journalist and Community- based media practitional , Rasheed Olanrewaju as a blessing not only to the people of Niger Delta Region,but Nigeria as a whole.

In a Statement released on Sunday to congratulate the journalist on his birthday celebrations and signed by the spokesman of the IYC Worldwide, Comrade Bedford Berefa Benjamin says Rasheed is a rare gem who believe that diversity of Nigeria is its strength.

Olanrewaju has been reporting news and current affairs from the Niger Delta region to the world starting from the port city of Calabar, through Akwa Ibom ,Rivers and Bayelsa State.

He said celebrating the highly detribalised citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on his birthday ,is a way to encourage him to do more for the Niger Delta region and the Country.

The IYC said Rasheed has been a blessing to the Niger Delta struggle, starting from his involvement in reporting the Presidential Amnesty Programme initiated by the Late Yar’adua’s administration.

He was among the few Journalists who periodically reported the neglected and displaced People of Bakassi and the marginalisation of the coastal communities.

Olanrewaju, the IYC said, has brought to the front burner of national and international discuss, the influx of over Fourty thousand Cameroonian refugees who fled their home country to seek asylum in Nigeria due to Crises in the Southern part of the francophone Country.

Again, He has consistently reported oil spills and environmental degradation in the riverine area of Cross River and AkwaIbom water Corridors.

This quintessential journalist has shown commitment severally to protect and project the interest of the Niger Delta through his National Media Platform,the Africa Independent Television, AIT and Raypower.

He served as Chairman of the Government House Press Corps,Governor’s Office Calabar for over seven years.

Giving credence to his diligence,Olanrewaju was appointed as the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity by the His Excellency, the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu and later appointed as Special
Adviser on Media and Publicity
by the immediate past Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu.

“On this occasion of your birth, our heartfelt prayer is that Almighty Allah keeps you and empowers you with a renewed capacity to do more and achieve greater feat in life.

“Your dedication to work is unquestionable. Your commitment to assigned duty is commendable, and your passion for humanity is second to non.
