IGP Confirms Withdrawal of 11,566 Police Escorts From VIP Protection
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), DR. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on thursday confirmed that 11,566 police officers assigned as escorts to very important persons (VIPs) across the country have been withdrawn.
Egbetokun made the announcement during a strategic meeting with senior police officers from the rank of commissioner and above. He explained that the move follows the directive of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu and is being implemented accordingly.
The IGP added that the affected officers have been debriefed and redeployed to areas where their presence would better support effective security operations. He also noted that around 120,000 police personnel remain assigned as private security escorts for individuals nationwide.
