ICYMI: Nigeria signs deal with Chinese solar panel maker to build local factory
Nigeria has signed an agreement with LONGi Green Energy Technology Co. Ltd, the world’s largest solar panel manufacturer, for the establishment of a 1,000-megawatt (MW) capacity solar panel production factory in the country.
According to a statement dated October 16, the deal, facilitated by the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) on behalf of the federal government, was sealed during a follow-up visit by a Nigerian delegation to China.
The visit had followed an earlier memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between both parties earlier in the year, according on the company’s website.
Speaking on the development, Mustapha Abdullahi, director-general of the ECN, described the agreement as a “significant milestone in Nigeria’s renewable energy landscape”, saying it underscores the country’s commitment to expanding local solar manufacturing capacity and driving clean energy adoption.
