I never rejected it” – Babangida denies turning down Tinubu’s appointment

Contrary to a viral letter alleging that he declined the role due to “personal and professional considerations,” Babangida issued a statement affirming his acceptance of the appointment and expressing gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the trust placed in him.

An insider also confirmed that the reports were untrue, adding that the public should disregard them.

“We wish to clarify that Muhammed gratefully accepts the appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture, as announced by the federal government, and extends his sincere appreciation to President Tinubu for the trust and confidence bestowed upon him,” the statement read.

Babangida further noted that those behind the spread of such “false and malicious” information would be investigated and brought to justice.

“We also want to assure the public that those spreading these falsehoods will be thoroughly investigated and brought to justice. We remain committed to transparency, accountability, and fostering unity within our nation,” the statement added.

Also in a post on X (formerly Twitter), presidential aide Olusegun Dada reinforced the denial, stating that Muhammed Babangida had officially accepted the role and was prepared to serve.

The presidency also called on the public to verify claims from credible sources and remain cautious of fake news intended to mislead or stir discontent.

Muhammad Babangida, 53, is the son of former military president Ibrahim Babangida.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s in Public Relations and Business Communication from the European University in Montreux, Switzerland.

He also completed an executive programme on Corporate Governance at Harvard Business School in 2002.

His appointment as BOA chairman was among several key leadership selections recently approved by the Tinubu administration.
