The pernicious consequences and aftermath of human beings’ abuse and unsustainable use of natural resources such as wildlife and forestry, exploration of fossil minerals, etc. are taking their toll on the earth.
Let us take a glimpse at the devastating earthquake that rocked the High Altas Mountain province of Morrocco leading to the catastrophic destruction of lives, and property and the displacement of a thousand people two weeks ago.
Again, I pray we ponder and reflect on the devastating flooding that occurred in the Libyan city of Derna leading to the death of thousands of people and the destruction of the city.
Let us all take a vow that henceforth we shall try in our little ways to desist from all things and actions that contribute directly, remotely, or indirectly to the continual devastation of global warming, remission of carbon emissions,  the environment, and the ecosystems.
I am saddened, and worried about the continual devastation of the remaining rainforests in West Africa located in Cross River State through illegal logging masterminded by rapacious and ruthless criminal gangs.
I, therefore implore our able and hardworking Governor Bassey Edet Otu to immediately set a motion in machinery to rejuvenate, reform, and reposition the Cross River State Forestry Commission to optimally perform its statutory function of enforcement of laws and regulations concerning environmental protection, sustainable management and conservation of our forestry resources and wildlife.
I urge Governor Busy Otu to appoint a professional forester to run the Cross River State Forestry Commission and work closely with the Professional Foresters Forum of Cross River State to save the Cross River Rainforest.
