Hisbah to sponsor weddings for 1000 repentant Boko-Haram members
The Kano State Hisbah Board has unveiled plans to sponsor the weddings of former thugs who have surrendered their weapons and renounced violence. Commander-General Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa made the announcement after more than 1,000 youths turned in their arms, committing to a life of peace.
Sheikh Daurawa said the initiative is part of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s programme to rehabilitate youths who have abandoned crime and embraced a lawful lifestyle. He urged the repentant youths to remain sincere in their commitment and encouraged others still involved in criminal activities to take advantage of the opportunity.
Speaking at the Police Headquarters in Bompai, Governor Yusuf’s representative, Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, stated that the police had begun screening the youths, with the NDLEA set to verify their sincerity. He added that the government would also provide start-up funds, vocational training, and educational opportunities for the repentant youths.
Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised the programme as evidence of the government’s dedication to fighting crime while rehabilitating young people. Youth leaders, including Kamilu and Buzu Mai Kidan Gangi, expressed gratitude, describing the initiative as a second chance at life.
