Handover of the NDDC Youth Internship Scheme Database Platform

Nigeria’s Senate President, Chief Godswill Akpabio, on August 5th, 2024, officially launched the Youth Internship Scheme in Port Harcourt. This initiative aims at providing valuable opportunities for 10,000 youths across the nine Niger Delta states, providing each beneficiary with a monthly stipend of 50,000 naira for a year, aligned with their skills and expertise.

The application portal opened on August 5th and closed on August 31st. On September 17th, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, NDDC Managing Director/CEO, held a press conference to highlight the significant milestones achieved so far in the NDDC. The project HOPE, the foreign postgraduate scholarship, and the Youth Internship Scheme, amongst others. He emphasized the Commission’s commitment to the Youth Internship Programme’s success, revealing that over 3 million prospective interns applied for the initiative.

In light of the overwhelming response, NDDC’s Executive Director of Projects, Sir Victor Antai, said that he’s proud to acknowledge the diligent efforts of all the directors who collaborated in addressing the aspirations of the region’s youth skill development and economic empowerment.

The purpose of today’s meeting, he stated is to formally hand over the database collation platform for the Youth Internship Scheme, developed by South Bridge Enterprises Systems Ltd., to the NDDC. This handover will also include a formal transition to Angala Fintech, the lead consultant responsible for overseeing the selection process for the beneficiaries of the Youth Internship Scheme.

We commend South Bridge Enterprises Systems Ltd for their outstanding work on the database platform and look forward to a successful collaboration with Angala Fintech to ensure the effective implementation of this vital and transformative initiative.

“Together, NDDC is committed to empowering the youth of the Niger Delta and fostering their development through this internship program.” Sir Victor Antai stated.
