Gunmen B√rn D0wn Several Houses In Kogi Community Amid Communal Clash

It was gathered that the gunmen, armed with AK-47 rifles, stormed the village around 5:00 p.m., shooting sporadically and sending residents fleeing into nearby bushes for safety.

At least 10 houses were razed on Saturday evening when suspected Fulani and Bassa assailants attacked Idochie community in Oganenigu Ward, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.

It was gathered that the gunmen, armed with AK-47 rifles, stormed the village around 5:00 p.m., shooting sporadically and sending residents fleeing into nearby bushes for safety.

A security source reported that the attackers looted properties and set fire to multiple homes, destroying items including a Jincheng motorcycle and other valuables.

Only four buildings, including a mosque, were left untouched during the assault.

Adamu Bala, a 45-year-old farmer and local vigilante, said he narrowly escaped the attack.

He alleged that he recognised one of the gunmen as someone from the Bassa community.

“No life was lost during the attack, but the destruction was massive. They set fire to people’s homes and took whatever they could carry,” Bala said.

It was reported that security operatives had been deployed and were working to ease tension and restore normalcy in the area.
