Governor approves NECO fees for 3,526 students
Abba Yusuf, the Kano state governor, has approved the payment of registration fees for 3,526 community school students sitting for the 2025 National Examinations Council (NECO).
In a statement, Ibrahim Adam, the special adviser to the governor on Information, said the registration fee will include students writing the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) examinations.
The governor said the fees will cover all community and voluntary school students who passed their qualifying examinations.
Yusuf said the Kano Educational Resource Department (KERD) has asked the students to report to their respective schools for data capture and thumbprinting.
Recently, Yusuf paid the NECO fees for 111,316 students from state-owned public schools in the state.
The National Examination Council of Nigeria (NECO) has announced that the internal registration for the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) will close on June 2, 2025.
The board advised candidates to complete all registration formalities before the deadline.
In April, Tunji Alausa asked the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and NECO to fully adopt computer-based testing (CBT) by 2026.
He said WAEC and NECO must begin conducting their objective papers in CBT by November 2025, and the transition to include essay components will be complete by May/June 2026.
He said the directive is part of broader efforts to curb exam malpractice and modernise the country’s assessment systems.
Alausa also commended the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for its “transparent and almost foolproof” exam process, describing it as meeting international standards.
