Governor approves N300m monthly school feeding allowance
The Kebbi State Government says it has increased monthly boarding school feeding from N175m to N300m.
The Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, made this known while receiving the national leadership of the Nigerian Union of Journalists on a courtesy visit to the Government House, Birnin Kebbi.
He noted that the approval is to boost students’ morale and encourage them to stay in school.
He said: “When we came on board, the Kebbi State Government was paying N175m monthly to feed our children in secondary school. To pin down these students, we have improved it to N300m.
“We are doing this so that the children can get delicious food that can sustain them to remain in the school for the benefit of our people and the state,” Idris said.
Idris further spoke of his government’s efforts to ensure national food security to include giving loads of fertiliser, food items, and herbicides to farmers for free.
“On agriculture, I am the only governor in Nigeria that procured 500 trucks of fertilisers and distributed them free of charge to farmers. This is to enhance the morale of farmers and also boost national food security.”
“We also purchased 550 trucks of assorted food items and distributed the same free-of-charge to Kebbi people to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal.
“We are doing all these to assist people and reduce some difficulties being faced by our people. We are planning in the next three weeks to flag off the distribution of fertilisers.
“We have almost 25,000 different solar pump machines, pesticides and herbicides to be given to our people free so that they can go back to the farm,” he said.
Ahead of the forthcoming Muslim fasting, the Kebbi Governor said arrangements were in place to distribute about 250 trucks of assorted food items to the people, freely.
He assured that his administration would neither relent in executing meaningful developmental projects that have direct bearing on the lives of generality.
“About three months ago, the state government under Kebbi Cares, disbursed N100,000 each to 65,000 people amounting to N6.5 billion towards making them self sufficient and we are going for the second phase ‘In Sha Allah,” the governor said.
Earlier, the National President of NUJ, Alhassan Yahaya lauded the governor for his strides in the state.
He enjoined the Kebbi Governor to remain unrelenting to leave his marks in the sands of time in the state’s history.
The president specifically praised the governor’s strides in agriculture, education, health, empowerment, and the general well-being of people.
