The Group of Seven (G7) leaders have issued a joint statement in support of Israel’s security amid escalating tensions with Iran.

“We affirm that Israel has a right to defend itself. We reiterate our support for the security of Israel,” the statement reads.
The G7 leaders also emphasised the importance of protecting civilians and urged a broader de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, including a ceasefire in Gaza.
The statement comes as Iran and Israel exchange heavy strikes, sparking fears of a wider conflict. US President Donald Trump, who was attending the G7 summit in Canada, will leave the event early due to the situation in the Middle East.
“Because of what’s going on in the Middle East, President Trump will be leaving tonight after dinner with Heads of State,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said.
Trump has ordered the US National Security Council to be ready to meet in the White House Situation Room. The US President has also urged Iran to negotiate, stating, “Iran is not winning this war, and they should talk… before it’s too late.”
He emphasized that Iran should not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons, saying, “IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON.”
The G7 leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, have called for de-escalation in the region. Macron said, “If the United States can achieve a ceasefire, that’s a very good thing.” Starmer noted a “consensus for de-escalation” among leaders.
The conflict between Israel and Iran has resulted in significant casualties on both sides. According to reports, at least 224 people have been killed in Iran, while 24 people have died in Israel. The international community, including China and Turkey, has urged restraint and called for diplomacy to resolve the crisis.
