FRSC begins clampdown on fake number plate owners
The Nasarawa State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps says it has launched a manhunt on owners of fake motorcycle number plates in the state
The newly posted State Sector Commander of FRSC, Lucia Samuel-Mhii, stated this in an interview with Arewa PUNCH in Lafia on Monday.
She explained that the Command recently observed during its investigations that some commercial motorcyclists were operating in the state with unregistered number plates.
As a result, she vowed that the trend would no longer be tolerated under her watch, even as she advised motorcyclists in the state without proper registration to regularise their documents in order to avoid sanctions.
Commander Samuel-Mhii also said that the Corps would work with traditional rulers, the state government, and other stakeholders to stop the activities of those perpetrating the act of selling motorcycles with fake number plates.
She further disclosed that the command was planning a joint enforcement on fake number plates and unregistered vehicles and motorcycles in the state.
The new Sector Commander explained that the enforcement operation would have FRSC personnel, state government officials, traditional rulers, and officials of the motorcyclists union, plus the other unions in the state collaborate for the task.
Samuel-Mhii noted that “The influx of motorcycles from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and other states where their operations have been banned has led to a situation where there are too many commercial motorcyclists operating in the state, thereby constituting threat on the highways, especially in Lafia, the state capital.
“Most of these commercial motorcycles are not registered with their unions, and we will work with the unions to ensure they all register for easy regulation and control,” she added.
The commander who further explained that she had interacted with the six different unions of commercial motorcyclists and the National Union of Road Transport Workers, disclosed that they all promised to cooperate with the FRSC in the state.
Arewa PUNCH reports that Commander Samuel-Mhii took over the leadership of the Nasarawa FRSC command from Corps Commander Sabo Innocent-Maigari on May 6, 2024 as the 16th sector commander.
