Four K!lled, 36 Hosp!talised As Cholera H!ts Adamawa Communities

Mr. Jibrin Ibrahim, Executive Chairman of the council, revealed these details during a visit to the Infectious Disease Control Centre (IDC) in Yola on Sunday.

A cholera outbreak in the Yola-North Local Government Area of Adamawa State has claimed four lives and led to 36 hospitalisations.

Mr. Jibrin Ibrahim, Executive Chairman of the council, revealed these details during a visit to the Infectious Disease Control Centre (IDC) in Yola on Sunday.

Ibrahim explained that the outbreak began in Alkalawa, Ajiya, and Limawa wards, with initial reports of 20 cases rapidly increasing to 40, Daily Trust reports.

“The number quickly rose, and unfortunately, four people have died from the disease,” he stated.

He added that health workers have stabilised many patients, who continue to receive treatment. Ibrahim praised the prompt efforts of health workers, the Red Cross, and international partners in containing the spread.

According to him, the outbreak is suspected to have been caused by contaminated water sources, worsened by recent flooding in affected areas.

“We suspect that the contamination of water sources due to the flooding in some parts of the council has contributed to this outbreak,” he noted.

Ibrahim urged residents to take preventive measures such as maintaining cleanliness, drinking safe water, and thoroughly washing fruits and vegetables.
